Coffee, Conte Crayon, gauche, graphite on paper. 18'“X 24” This painting is part of a mystery storyline. The artist was invited to participate in this group show called “Broken Hearts and Stolen Treasures” the Story of Kricket Winslow. Hosted by The Mystery Art League and The Friends of Two Rivers Mansion in Nashville, Tennessee. The artist interpreted a fabricated song based on true historical facts.
Back in the early 20th century, Kricket Kinslow was swinging on top of the world! As a jazz pianist and songwriter, she played with the greats and they in turn played her chart-topping compositions. This young woman even won the heart of the world’s greatest archaeologist, Toller Leicester!
But after these globe-trotting sweethearts broke up, Kricket Kinslow disappeared- along with all the ancient treasures Leicester had gifted to her. Rumors began forming that Kinslow had hidden hints in the lyrics of her final songs and their sheet music artwork as to where throughout the world she hid the items.
The song “Everything Son” is an obvious documentation of Kricket’s grief and disillusionment when she and Leicester parted ways:
“When he broke my heart I lost my faith That love is anything More than a passing phase
Some say we’re just animals And that anything goes So I threw off how mama raised me Said yes to Phil, Frank and Cole
Pursuing every good feeling To keep from feeling bad More wishes granted take me further From any peace I ever had…
“I left my automobile Where they stack the trash Ghosts played softly and tenderly With a WC Handy splash
“Everything’s gone now I’m so empty even sorrow has bailed Might go back to mama and papa And rest where love never fails…
Gonna try to undo some of what I done did Return the rhythm to the ruins Return the songs to the skids.”
