Sediment Humanscapes
MIFA Gallery | Miami, Florida
In Sediment Humanscape, the installation/performance, I used secondhand jeans to represent the immigration and settling process. Art as prayer, I set my intention and dedicated this piece to all those lost at sea, to those who found themselves crossing bodies of water and have silently fallen to the depths of the ocean. I dedicated my work to those who have courageously battled storms to reach dry land. Bodies of water all around the globe have quietly collected the souls of wishful migrants. The layers of jeans symbolize the layers of generations that have settled in new lands. Sediment Humanscapes represents the hopeful outcome of generations that have settled and prospered in new lands along with the grim reality of souls that have settled in the depths of the oceans never reaching dry land.
